Brookline Walking Guide

Morrill Town Land

The Morrill lot comprises over 100 acres but is undeveloped with no established hiking trails. Access to the land is from Overlook Drive. You can bushwack through dense laurel thickets and eventually follow an old logging trail that leads to Rocky Pond in Hollis if you head east and to Melendy Pond if you head west.

Oak Hill Town Land

Adjacent to the Oak Hill Ball Field, the Oak Hill lot is approximately 30 acres in size. An old logging road serves as an attractive woods trail through the property that can be accessed from four points along Parker and Oak Hill Rds.

Palmer Wildlife Preserve

Totally 114 acres, the main trail of the preserve is located off Route 13, approximately one-half mile north of the 1786 Antiques House. Cars must be parked on Route 13. This trail takes you across a small bridge, up an incline and through a gradual decline as you enter the main area of the preserve. At the railroad bed, turn left and follow the trail to the cabin-in- the woods.

A new entrance and trail will be completed in the summer of 2000. This entrance is located off Route 13 immediately passed the Antique House. Use the common driveway and park in the grassy area to your left. This shorter trail will lead you directly to the "cabin-in-the woods" which is currently under renovation.

Talbot-Taylor Sanctuary

Entrance to the 70-acre sanctuary is off of Cleveland Hill Road and is clearly marked with a large sign. The sanctuary is accessible only by foot and features a 22-acre pond which is home to ducks, geese and heron.
