What is the Brookline History Committee (BHC)? In 1914, Edward E. Parker published the second edition of the "History of Brookline, Formerly Raby, Hillsborough County, NH, with Tables of Family Records and Genealogies". The goal of the committee is to bring this book up to date with respect to the town history, and to do so before the 250th anniversary of the founding of the town which will be celebrated in 2019.
When does the BHC meet and where? Meetings are held at 7:00 PM at the town hall. The next meeting is Thursday April 7. An every other month meeting schedule of the second Thursday of the month will prevail after this. Meetings will be held May 12, July 14 , Sept. 8 and Nov. 10 during 2005.
How do I contact someone from the BHC? You can send an email to HistoryCommittee@brookline.nh.us or send a regular letter to the History Committee at the Town Hall. You may also call Chairman Lynne Abt 673-8058.
Where can I learn more about what the BHC is doing? You may reference more information on the town web page www.brookline.nh.us. The History Committee link is on the Town Government page
How can I help the BHC? Share your knowledge of Brookline’s history with a committee member. Review the current table of contents and make sure the committee hasn’t missed something important or worthwhile. If you have any stories that you feel should be included, share them! Loan any old photos to the committee (they will be returned) that you feel could add interest to our town’s history book. Review the table of contents then pick a subject you like and get researching and writing!!
Does the new book have a name? If you have an idea of a good name for the next book other than Brookline Town History 1914 to Present, please let us know!
What is the difference between the BHC and the BHS (Brookline Historical Society)? The BHS is a non profit historical organization devoted to preserving the history of Brookline. (It meets monthly at the Historical Society building on Meeting House Hill Road.) The BHC task is to preserve and write up the history of the town from 1914 to the present, about 100 years of our history. Several members of the BHC are also on the BHS.
