Police Chief Search Committee

Present: At-large members Susan Adams, John Carr, Tom Moran, Bob Parodi, Laurie Perreault, Ann Somers; SelectmenÕs Representative Jack Flanagan

 

The first meeting of the Police Chief Search Committee was called to order at 7:15 p.m. 

 

Administrative paperwork was handed out.  Members introduced themselves with brief descriptions of backgrounds:

 

               Susan Adams – Human Resources background, soccer coach/mom, resident for 3 years

               John Carr – Retired police officer, has worked with 7 chiefs, advised on police programs

               and procedures, resident for 2 years;

               Tom Moran – Civil engineer, has served on town boards and committees, resident for

               50+ years;

               Bob Parodi – Attorney and former selectman, resident for 24 years;

               Laurie Perreault – Attorney, police chiefs in family, resident for 7 years;

Ann Somers – On facilities committee for a new police station and other volunteer work; resident for 10 years;

               Jack Flanagan – SelectmenÕs Representative, has served on school boards and finance

               committee, resident for 22 yrs.

 

It was decided by consensus that all members would sign confidentiality agreements before the next meeting.

 

Susan Adams and John Carr were chosen as co-chairs by unanimous vote.  Ann Somers was chosen as recording secretary, 6-0-1, Ann abstaining.

 

Procedural matters were discussed throughout the meeting, including but not limited to advertising, interviews, research, evaluation, filing, confidentiality, background checks, and how to include department heads, police staff and the public in the process.  Details will be refined as we move forward.

All applications will go through Rena.  All reviews of applications will be conducted in non-public sessions as required by RSA 91-A:3, para. II (b).  Several statements of interest have already been received.

 

A motion was made by Bob, seconded by Laurie, to authorize John and/or Susan to get an ad completed and approved by the Board of Selectmen and publicized as soon as possible.  Voted yes 7-0.

 

A motion was made by Bob, seconded by Laurie, to recommend that the Board of Selectmen publish the opening in at least the following places: The Union Leader, The Telegraph, the TownÕs web site, Police Chief magazine: www.policechiefmagazine.org, the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council newsletter (603) 271-2133, and through the New Hampshire Chiefs of Police Association: Sandra Cusson/Secretary, (603) 432-6111/Derry Police: scusson@derrynhpolice.com.  Voted yes 7-0.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.  The next meeting will be June 14, 7:00 p.m. at the Town Hall.
